Book Review- His needs, Her needs

I finished reading this book by Willard F. Harley over the weekend. The caption of the book is: Building an affair-proof marriage.

I got this book from a couple frens, Ginny and Jiaming who got the book to improve their pre-marriage relnship. Wedding bells are not ringing soon for them hence the sex pages weren’t too applicable.

The author, a Christian and a counselor, wrote to address the marriages that have gone wrong and many that resulted in affairs. The book is written from experiences of his marriage counseling and the statistics. But the book is not targeted at Christians only, it can be bought in popular around $21, it’s for anyone/everyone who’s interested to keep their marriage healthy and loving.

It emphasize on the 5 needs of men and women.
Men:
- Sexual Fulfillment
- Recreational Companionship
- An Attractive Spouse
- Domestic Support
- Admiration

Women:
- Affections
- Conversation
- Honesty and Openess
- Financial Support
- Family Commitment

Not so much abt stereo-typing while these are the common lacks in marriages that had broken down. I guess some men/women wouldn’t identify with everything that’s mentioned. The thing is, if you were to apply that sensitivity towards the “needs” of your partner, I’m sure you may not be totally right, and definitely NEVER wrong!

Surviving an affair, be it being the victim or the inflictor, was highlighted in the book as well. I thought the section was pretty good as many couples might be trying to get it going again…

I can lend it to anyone who is interested to keep their marriages right, healthy, fruitful and blissful.

Thought of the blog:
Doing the right things would be better preferred to having the best solutions. “Prevention is better than Cure” applies well on extramarital affairs.
