Microwaving; Hus; Dinner with Gohs

Do you think microwaving cooked-food will make it less oily hence less fattening? I always wonder, since I normally use kitchen towel to microwave overnight dry foods and it leaves spats of oil on the paper. BIG SPATS

Ways to keep the crisps in dry foods i.e. Pizza, Curry Puffs and Fried chicken using microwave.

- Cold foods are to be kept below 5°c to keep it safe for consumption

- After the food it removed from the Fridge, sort it according to the sizes, this ensure even warming up of food. Big/thick food requires a

slightly longer time to heat up.

- Then put unto Kitchen towels(at least 2 layer) and wrap it up loosely.

- Set the microwave to med high or high for abt 20sec to 1min(depending on the size of the food you’re heating up), the trick is to use the highest power to heat up at the shortest time, as prolonged period of heating or not enough heat will turn food soggy.

Big food: lower heat, longer time

Small food: higher heat, shorter time.

-After the food is reheated, take it out of the oven and unwrapped the covering part of kitchen towel so that the water vapour / steam won’t be trapped in. As that will cause softening of the crust/skin/batter.

- Allow it to cool slightly until it’s no longer giving off “smoke”, the crust now should be as good as when you first bought it.

My thoughts: The kitchen towel removes the oil as it gets heated up, hence the available liquid in the food is removed hence the food can’t get soggy. And the unwrapping also allow the water(in gaseous state) to be lost quickly so that it has little or no time to come in contact with the hot food to soften it again.

Other uses of Microwave: melting ice-creams. Our freezer temperature is not ideal for ice-creams, because it has to be lower for the perishables. Hence when we take ice-creams out of the freezers, it’s unlikely that we can stick our spoons inside to pry the ice-creams out nicely. You can microwave it at low power(meaning lowest) for abt 30 sec. it’ll be nice like those you’ll eat the the gelatos stations.

I kind of feel bad abt writing abt Hus that way 2 days ago. For not going home promptly to attend to the laundry that was drenched by the rain. He was stuck at home for the whole of yesterday cleaning the house. Our kitchen was infested by millions of bugs. They are very small, like dust particles and it’s all around. They were not moving in 1 direction, they were everywhere and you don’t know what in the kitchen is their food.

He spent the whole morning trying to clean with non-toxic measures, then they came back like within minutes. He got frustrated and headed to cold storage to be a water-base insecticide to EXTERMINATE THEM.

They were all dead, then he cleaned it. Then a 2nd layer of insecticide and washed everything that was in the kitchen during the massacre. That’s a lot of work ok? And he mopped the floor again…

He’s becoming a clean freak… that couldn’t stand dirt and hair on the floor, that’s so funny… Anyway, thank Hus for keeping the house clean for us.

Hus then went for his IPPT after he's happy with his cleaning. After IPPT, we had dinner with the Gohs at West Coast Jack's Place.

Present was Dad, a.k.a FIL and James, a.k.a BIL and his Girlfriend Chun Lian a.k.a Summer and Me a.k.a Audrey, drey, wife then the Birthday boy HUS.

Picture was taken during serving of appetisers. Oysters and Escargot(read as as-car-go) hence Summer and I were not in the pic. Actually most of us were not in the pic, only the food is. Hee hee. :B
